EasyGym ease to victory over Cannell Print in League A Final

On Monday night last week EasyGym met Cannell Print to decide who would win this seasons League A Title. These teams qualified for the final by virtue of winning the league during the Autumn block of fixtures before Christmas in the case of EasyGym and the Winter block of fixtures after Christmas in the case of Cannell Print.

The match started with EasyGym and Island number one Dave Norman taking on Island captain Thomas Whiteway. The first game went to Norman 11-8, but then Whiteway took the next game by the same score. Norman went on to win the next two games convincingly taking the match 3-1.

On the opposite court we had the youth of Cannell Print’s Oliver Wait taking on the experienced Dave Hedley. The games were all close with the players taking it in turns to win making the score 2-2, but the eventual game was 11-8 to Wait, making it 1-1 in matches.

Joshua Green was next on against EasyGym’s Rob Boyles. Green only started playing league squash this season and his improvement has been quite remarkable. He is a very accomplished badminton player whose athleticism lends itself to squash and he took the match 3-1.

EasyGym captain Paul Barnett took on Ben Peach, another vastly improved player. Barnett took this encounter in three straight games 11-8, 11-10, 11-10 with his experience really showing when it came to the vital points. So the match score became 2-2.

The final and deciding match was Cannell Print’s Mike Hayler against Malcolm Levy. Levy was in no mood for a marathon against iron-man Hayler and made full use of his shot making skills to take the match in three very quick games. In winning the encounter he ensured that the League A title for the season went to EasyGym.
