C League

Crazy Jack’s faced Strix Squash Squad this week. At number 4, Crazy Jack’s Tek Min Ewe started strongly, taking the first game against Sam Elliott. However Sam then picked up his game, winning 3-1. Next at number 3, Darren Smith lost 0-3 to Strix’s Andrew Igoea despite three close games with technical shots and good quality rallies. At number 1, Crazy Jack’s Matt Ripley played against George Rumney. Matt struggled in the first game and despite slowly improving, George proved too strong and won 3-0 for Strix. Next up, there were tight games between Mark Goodall and Strix’s Aaron Rumney. Mark’s power proved too strong and he achieved his first win 3-0. Lastly there was a close match between Crazy Jack’s Tom Barker and Strix’s Ewan Cannan. Tom played a strong first game and the second game went 14-14 with a let enabling Ewan to just edge it. Ewan then took the next two games winning 3-1 overall. Strix Squash Squad won 4-1.

The Island Exhaust Vets continued with their winning streak and look on course to win the league this season. They defeated the Falcons 5-0. In the first match of the night Falcons’ Adam Jones displayed some great squash, but Gerrit du Toit delivered some excellent shots and wrapped up the match in 3 straight games. The next match was between the ever improving Joe Butler and Exhaust’s Les Callow. Les played some great squash to win 3-0 although he had an injury sustained from last week’s game. The other three wins for the Vets came from the seasoned Mark Stratford, Phil Shaw and Peter Sharples who beat Jon Cox, Kevin Cretney and Vusimbe Zivave respectively.  The final game between Peter and Vusi was a thriller with Zivave taking the first game off Sharples. However Sharples’ experience made a difference and he was the eventual winner 3 -1.

Finally the Global Monetary Solutions Juniors took on the Dragons. At number 5, after an excellent game with some fine rallies, Dragons’ Ben Arthur won 3-1 against Cristina Cruz. Despite the loss, Cristina played some of her best squash this season. Robbie Lapsley at 4 for the Juniors lost  to Andy McLarney for the Dragons 0-3. One of the two outstanding matches of the night was at number 3 between Harrison Callow for Juniors and Jamie Biddulph, who eventually won. It was a tremendous 5 setter with many long rallies and definitely Harrison’s best display of the season. At 2, Richard Webster for the Juniors beat Phil Whittam 3-0 despite a very close first game. The final match of the evening at 1 was between Calum Larkin for Juniors and Stuart Highy for the Dragons. This was another marathon five setter. Showing great resilience, Highy levelled the match taking the fourth game 15-10, but that effort took its toll in the fifth which the younger player won 15-10 and the match 3-2. The Dragons won the overall fixture 3-2, but this was a tremendous effort from the Juniors which showcased their great improvement over the season.
