Oscar Hill is the IOM Squash Rackets Association POM (Player of the Month) for December 2018 with a point’s increase of 22.1.%. Oscar is in the RAF and he plays his squash ‘across’, but regularly returns to the Isle of Man and makes it a priority to represent the IOM team in tournaments whenever he can. The second placed player is Racketeers player James Leith with a 15% increase in playing level. James is very competitive and had two outstanding results in December against Ian Barnes and Alan McNair. The third placed player is Rob Colquitt with 13.2%. The five most improved players in December are listed below –
1 Oscar Hill – points moved from 4175 to 5098 = 22.1%
2 James Leith – points moved from 829 to 953 = 15%
3 Rob Colquitt – points moved from 1617 to 1830 = 13.2%
4 Calum Baker – points moved from 1412 to 1561 = 10.6%.
5 Mark Stratford – points moved from 1236 to 1355 = 9.6%

League matches resume the week commencing Monday 14th January but the will be a tournament the week preceding this on Tuesday 8th, Thursday 10th and Friday 11th January. Please note that though the ‘Elites’ tournament is restricted to the top 24 players, it is the top 24 players that enter the tournament, so if you are a top 50 player it is worth entering as players above you on the rankings may not enter the tournament. The IOMSRA introduced a new tournament to their Squash Calendar this year, the ‘MYZONE Christmas Handicap Tournament’. The Tournament was well supported with an entry of 32 players. It was hoped to a be a fun tournament to finish the Pre-Christmas half of the season and it didn’t disappoint.
The last matches of the pre-Christmas squash season were played last week to determine the winners of each league.
EasyGym are the A League winners despite losing their final match to team AON. AON won 3-2, however, the victory wasn’t big enough for them to overturn the 46-point deficit they needed to take top spot from their opponents. Jason Crease and Chris Cave gave AON the perfect start with 3-0 victories at four and five. Dave Norman and Malcolm Levy levelled the score with victories for Easygym at one and two, with Levy surviving a five game battle with Robin Crease in the closest match of the night. Mason McLarney took the deciding win for AON at three.
It is the ‘Final Night’ tonight in the ‘MYZONE Christmas Handicap 2018’. The final should start between 7.30 and 8 and it promises to be a very exciting match between to fine young players who are fairly evenly matched. The graphic below shows the matches to be played tonight, they will be played from the bottom match up through the round finishing with the final between Ben Leith and Leighton Ginty.
