Cannell Print And Team AON contenders for Division A Title
The A League resumed on Thursday night with reigning champions Team AON and their closest rivals Cannell Print both in action. Team AON have a very healthy lead in this division but Cannel Print could overtake them if results go their way.
A maximum points win helped Cannel Print on their way as they ran out victors by a score of 5-0 and 180-97 against Mid Court Crisis (MCC). Captain Thom Whiteway and his young team of Josh Green, Ben Peach and Oliver Wait all secured 3-0 wins against their older opponents. Merseyside over 60s player Dave O’Neill put up most resistance for MCC taking Rob Colquitt to five games before finally losing the fifth game 11-9.
However Team AON maintained their good lead as they dropped only one point in their 4-1 win over StoneArt in the other match. AON captain Robin Crease and Dafydd Lewis (a player who recently broke into the top 20 ranked players on the island) both won their matches 3-0. Steve Baker got out of the traps quickly to get a 2-0 lead against Jason Crease, but Jason’s young legs enabled him to take the next three in a good comeback. Steve’s son Calum, playing against Mason McLarney, came back from 2-0 down to level the match at 2-2, but McLarney eventually took the fifth game 11-9. The highlight of the night was the match between the number ones, AON’s Pat Fitzpatrick and StoneArt’s Jason Blue. It was a very close and exciting match which went all the way with Blue finally victorious, taking the fifth game 18-16.
