A Few words about Steve Gaylor
The Isle of Man Squash Community was very saddened to hear of the death of Steve Gaylor on Monday 7th September, aged only 51 years. He died of a particularly aggressive cancer and faced up to it with great courage and never complained. Steve leaves behind his partner of 25 years, Kim, and two children Oscar 13 and Jasmin 10.
Steve was a very popular and much-loved member of the Squash community here on the island. He played competitive squash for a good many years and for various teams. He was first seen wielding a racket at Summerland in the early 1990’s. He also played at Onchan Squash Club where he was a member of a number of teams over the years including Onchan A, Cains and Davrost. While playing for Davrost he succeeded in winning the A league in 2011. He had a break from squash when his children were young but came out of retirement to play for StoneArt and Crowe Dragons from 2015 up until the end of 2018. His signature shot was his fore-hand drive which he could hit with real pace.
He will be missed by all those who had the privilege to play with him or against him. The squash community are all the richer for having had him among us, he was a gentleman and a thoroughly good bloke.
