Buchanan & Pitts Misfits continue their winning streak
StoneArt remain undefeated in the A League as we reach the halfway point of the Autumn season. Crazies were two players down so brought in two reserves, Liam Townsend and James Ramsey. Townsend making his debut for Crazies did well to get a game off Lyndon Cheetham, a player ranked much higher. Mark Webster-Smith also enjoyed some success for the Crazies taking a game against Hamish Thornton before losing 3-1. The match of the night though was between Ashley Sandyford-Sykes who took the Crazies only win in a five game thriller with Jason Blue, taking the final game 11-10.
Team AON played against a very strong Mid-Court-Crisis (MCC) team in the other A league fixture. They succeeded in keeping the pressure on the league leaders with a 3-2 win and now only trail StoneArt by 72 points. Mason McLarney won in three games and his teammates Robin Crease and Dafydd Lewis took the other wins for AON with 3-1 results. Dave Norman won for MCC while their other win came from Rob Boyles who had a five game war of attrition against Chris Cave, with Boyles eventually triumphing by only one point.
In the B League Crowe Dragons had to fight for every point as Junior Academy continue to go from strength to strength. Dave Hedley, Mark Grace and Beth Jones took wins for Dragons with Jones, determined not to lose to one of her juniors, having to dig deep for her 3-1 win against Isaac Quayle who never stopped running. Junior Ben Leith played well to beat the in-form Richard Cretney in a five game thriller, coming from 8-3 down in the final game to win 15-9. Oliver Wait took the other win for juniors, playing some excellent squash to beat James Martin 3-1.
Derivco Sharks secured their first win of the season 3-2 against Racketeers Pioneers. Joining Derivco Sharks for the first time was Baillie Watterson who made a winning start against his former teammate Marc Taggart. Greg Ansara beat James Leith and Dave Freer sealed the win for Sharks, triumphing 3-0 over Rob Boyles at first string. Alan McNair played a great match against the higher ranked Dafydd Lewis but Lewis’ greater experience won out in the end as he along with Barry Irvine took the wins for Pioneers.
Outcasts are back in second position in the league after a 3-2 victory over close rivals Island Tyres & Exhausts. The Outcasts won 3-0 in all three middle order matches through Chris Cave, Toby Woolard and Mark Henson. The two wins for Exhausts came at one, where Exhausts Steve Baker had a surprising 3-0 win over Nathan Quilliam, and at five where Shaun Wylie pulled it back form 2-0 down to beat Pat Russell in a five game epic.
In the C League Buchanan & Pitts Misfits haven’t lost a match since the opening fixture and took their unbeaten run to four matches with a 4-1 result against the Junior Academy C team. The Juniors did produce some good performances with another fine win for Emma Leith 3-0 over Terry Holt and a battling return to form after injury from Amaline Batty who lost a well contested game to Stephen Pitts 1-3. Elsewhere experience told for Misfits with 3-0 wins from Toby Woolard, Andy Dixon and Jay Dernie.
Last years C league champions Island Exhausts Vets continued their climb up the table with a 4-1 win over Dohle Stars. The Vets won all the middle order matches 3-0 through Les Callow, Richard Cretney and Gerrit Du Toit. In the number one match spectators witnessed an absolutely fantastic effort by Luke Tippett, narrowly missing a great scalp in the form of veteran Ian Sheard. Chris Nash played well to take the only win for Dohle winning 3-0 against the experienced Phil Shaw.
Santander Racketeers Academy hosted the Outcasts Dragons, with the Dragons taking the victory 4-1 and nearly the maximum points available from the night. Chris Beard was the only Racketeers winner beating Richard Creer in three very close games. The game of the night was between Fraser Dorling and Peter Ginty, the top seeds, with Ginty taking the victory 3-1 in a tight contest.
The Hansard Racketeers continued their impressive start to the season with a 4-1 win over Dandara Falcons in the C League’s Friday evening slot. David Johnson, Ben Dalglish and Matt Corlett recorded 3-0 wins to give their side the 25 bonus points. Jon Cox pulled one back with a hard-fought victory over Mark Harrop as the latter made his comeback from injury for the Racketeers. Joe Burrows continued his fine early season form and wrapped up a good win for the Racketeers as he eventually edged a ding-dong battle with Falcons’ Lewi Long at number one.
