Oscar Hill was recently picked to represent the Royal Air Force in the UK Armed Forces Individual Squash Championships, in the u25 category. This event took place at HMS Temeraire over two days. The first day was dedicated to group matches and quarter finals. Hill came through his group unscathed after matches against army players. Due to the draw, he received a bye in the quarter finals.
The semi finals saw him carry his form over from the day before, winning 3-0 and progressing to the final. The final was against a fellow RAF player and Oscar was clearly a man on a mission, winning the first two games 11-4, 11-0. His opponent dug in during the last game, with some tight rallies up to 5-5, but Hill then stepped up an extra gear pulling ahead and winning 11-5.
Oscar first picked up a squash racket in the Manx Youth Games and was coached as a junior through the IOMSRA youth development programme. Interestingly one of his coaches was Steve Baker who won the very same event for the RAF in 1986.
