Four Isle of Man Squash players are currently representing the Merseyside county team at Masters level, we are affiliated to Merseyside Squash so we can represent them at county level. The 4 players are pictured below and are left to right – Dave O’Neill, Ian Sheard, Les Callow and Peter Sharples.
Peter, Ian and Les all performed well in this mornings match against Yorkshire Over 65’s but they all lost 3-0 only just failing to win the ‘money’ points to take games.
In the afternoon the Over 65s played Cumbria but Ian Sherd was rested for this fixture. Peter Sharples took a game of Cumbria’s number 1 but was defeated 3-1 in the end. Les Callow at number 3 got Merseyside’s first win of the day with a convincing 3-1 over Phil Leek of Cumbria.
The Over 65s final match was played on Sunday against against a very strong Lancashire team. This time Les Callow had a well earned rest with Peter and Ian spear-heading the team at 1 and 2. The Lancashire 1 and 2 performed very well on the day to get comfortable 3-0 wins.
In the Over 60s event Dave O’Neill came up against the highly ranked Lancashire over 60s player Allen Barwise, a player with a ‘Squash Level’ of about 3,500 so on paper a much better player than Dave. Dave performed well and is to be congratulated on gaining his first Merseyside Over 60s cap.
